Paint colors samples these days have gotten a bit daunting. I mean who needs 20 shades of white? The best thing to do is start with the first color that makes you smile. In other words, the first color that invokes a feeling within you. If you are trying to create a relaxing mood, see what color makes you feel that way; for some its a watery blue but for others it could be a warm tan. Once you have narrowed it down to a color family, then choose one tone lighter and one tone darker. Get the smallest sample size available and paint a good size square sample in a few places in the room. Then just sit in the space at different times of the day. Colors will read different depending on the type of light and how much light is in the room. Some shades of grey will read green or blue even. If you plan on taking pictures in the room, you may want to snap a few photos at different times to see how the color reads in a photo.
